Why homeowners consider it

  • Thermeau publishes a complete performance table for every model at three test conditions, including the honest one: 4.0 COP at 50°F air. Most manufacturers lead with the 80/80/80 figure and bury the rest, and the 50-degree number is what actually decides how a heat pump behaves during a January cold front.
  • The Prestige line carries 5 years on labor and 5 years on parts plus 10-year corrosion protection on the titanium heat exchanger, and Thermeau states the warranty applies automatically without registration — you keep the invoice. The Signature line trades the cooling mode for a longer parts term: 2 years labor, 7 years parts, same 10-year exchanger coverage.
  • The Prestige has a cooling mode on every model except the TH140B, which is a Florida feature rather than a northern one: an unscreened pool in August is often too warm rather than too cold.
  • Construction is conventional in the best sense — a Copeland Scroll compressor, R-410A, a twisted titanium tube exchanger in PVC, and hot-gas reversible defrost on the Prestige so the unit comes back to heating within about two minutes instead of waiting out the frost.
  • One cabinet size across the whole residential range (39 x 33 x 34 inches) makes retrofit planning simple: if a Thermeau fits the pad today, the next size up fits too.

What to know before buying

  • Service access is the honest question with this brand, and Thermeau's own comparison note in the industry is exactly that. The U.S. office is at 126 Semoran Commerce Place in Apopka, Florida and the company describes a Canadian-based factory, so nothing about it is remote in principle — but Gulf Coast dealer density is thinner than Hayward, Pentair or Jandy, and warranty labor is worth nothing if nobody nearby performs it. Ask for the servicing dealer's name before you buy, not after.
  • There is no app and no published automation integration. The thermostat is a good self-diagnosing control, but if your pad runs on IntelliCenter, OmniLogic or iAquaLink, ask the installer how the heater will be switched.
  • The 10-year term is corrosion protection on the titanium heat exchanger, not ten years of parts and labor. Read the three coverages separately: 5/5/10 on the Prestige, 2/7/10 on the Signature.
  • Electrically these are substantial units: the TH125 and TH140B run 32.1 A RLA at 230V single phase, with a 42.5 A minimum circuit ampacity and 70 A maximum overcurrent protection. That is a bigger circuit than several competing 120,000 BTU-class heat pumps, and older Florida panels often need work first.
  • Read the capacity table before you assume bigger is better. The TH140B is the largest unit at 133,000 BTU/hr and publishes a 6.0 COP, while the TH125 immediately below it publishes 121,000 BTU/hr at 5.5 — and the TH140B is the one model with no cooling mode. Pick the model for the job, not the number.
  • The Signature line does not cool at all. If heat and chill matters, it has to be a Prestige, and not the TH140B.

Warranty, term by term

The warranty only matters on the parts that actually fail. Here is how this one splits up.

Parts
5 years (Prestige); 7 years on the Signature line
Labor
5 years (Prestige); 2 years on the Signature line
Heat exchanger
10-year corrosion protection on the titanium heat exchanger (both lines)

Thermeau publishes two residential warranties: Prestige at 5 years on labor and 5 years on parts, and Signature at 2 years on labor and 7 years on parts, both with 10-year corrosion protection on the titanium heat exchanger. Thermeau's support page states the warranty applies automatically on purchase with no registration required — keep the invoice — and that it triages by phone before dispatching a qualified technician. Professional installation and dealer service availability still matter: confirm who performs warranty labor in your area before you buy.

Why the heat exchanger matters

The heat exchanger is the part of a pool heater that actually moves heat into the water, and what it is made of decides how long the heater survives Florida water chemistry. Here is what the four materials mean in practice.

Copper
The traditional material and the cheapest to build. It transfers heat well and is fine on a well-balanced chlorine pool, but it is the least forgiving of low pH, high chlorine and salt. On the Gulf Coast it is usually the first component to fail.
Cupro-nickel
Copper alloyed with nickel. It gives up a little heat transfer in exchange for much better resistance to unbalanced water chemistry and salt. On gas heaters this is the upgrade worth having in Florida, and some manufacturers now ship it as standard.
NiTek (nickel alloy)
A nickel-alloy exchanger used on some gas heaters as a corrosion-resistant alternative to copper. Positioned between cupro-nickel and titanium in both durability and price.
TitaniumThis heater
Effectively immune to pool water chemistry, including salt. It is the standard on quality pool heat pumps and the reason a heat pump can sit on a salt pool for years without exchanger trouble. It is expensive, which is why you rarely see it on gas heaters.

Whatever the material, plumbing order matters just as much: a chlorinator or salt cell belongs downstream of the heater, never upstream.

How we scored it

MPH Equipment Score — 4.3/5How we rate heaters
  • Both warranties are long and, unusually, need no registration — Prestige 5 years labor and parts, Signature 7 years parts — with 10-year corrosion protection on the exchanger. It is not a full 5 because the strength of a labor warranty depends on a dealer being nearby to honour it.
  • A twisted titanium tube exchanger in a PVC shell, a Copeland Scroll compressor and R-410A is a durable, conventional build with nothing in the water path to corrode on a salt pool.
  • Performance data is published honestly at three test conditions, with 6.0-6.3 COP at 80/80/80 on most models and 4.0 at the 50°F air point. The headline TH125 is the weakest of the group at 5.5, which is why this is 4.5 rather than 5.
  • Serviceability is the reason this record lands slightly below the comparison guide's 4.4 starter score. Thermeau keeps a U.S. office in Apopka and triages by phone before dispatching a technician, but dealer density on Florida's Gulf Coast is thinner than the major pro-channel brands, and that is a real ownership risk.
  • Controls are competent but basic: a self-diagnosing thermostat, no app, no Wi-Fi and no published automation integration, in a market where built-in Wi-Fi is becoming standard at this price.
  • Value is fair rather than exceptional — upper mid-range pricing buys a long warranty and good published data, but not the connectivity or the service-network depth that similarly priced competitors include.

TH125 questions

What is the difference between Signature and Prestige?

They share capacities, cabinet and compressor, and differ in two ways that matter. Prestige adds a cooling mode (on every model except the TH140B) and hot-gas reversible defrost, and carries 5 years labor and 5 years parts. Signature is heating only with air defrost and carries 2 years labor and 7 years parts. Both get 10-year corrosion protection on the titanium exchanger.

Which size fits my pool?

The residential range runs from 64,000 BTU/hr on the 65 class to 133,000 on the 140B at the 80/80/80 test point, with the TH125 at 121,000 in between. Size it against the pool's surface area, exposure and the temperature you actually want — and pay attention to the 50°F-air column, because that is the condition that sets the size in a Florida January.

What electrical service does it need?

230V single phase, 60 Hz. The TH125 draws 32.1 A running, needs a 42.5 A minimum circuit ampacity and allows up to 70 A of overcurrent protection; the smallest 65-class unit needs 25.5 A. Have the panel checked before ordering.

Is it safe on a salt water pool?

Yes. The exchanger is a twisted titanium tube in PVC, which Thermeau describes as resistant to pool and spa chemicals, and there is no copper in the water path. As with any heater, the salt cell or chlorinator belongs downstream of the heat pump.

Can I control it from my phone or my pool automation?

Not as published. Thermeau equips both lines with an auto-diagnostic electronic thermostat and does not publish app control, Wi-Fi or integration with Pentair, Hayward or Jandy automation. If the heater has to join an existing system, ask the installer exactly how it will be switched before you commit.

Do you install Thermeau heat pumps in Sarasota?
